The Devanandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav, the annual programme held under the aegis of the Lalita Shivaram Ubhayaker Foundation for the Arts, drew to a close in Bangalore, on Sunday evening.
This year’s celebration was held in the backdrop of the recent launch of Smriti Nandan Cultural Centre by the Lalita Shivaram Ubhayaker Foundation for the Arts.
The performances comprised vocal recitals by Ms Saniya Kulkarni Patankar, Ms Bharathi Pratap, Ms Sanchita Tori Chowdhury and Mr Ravi Kiran, a Santoor recital by Sandip Chatterjee and Sitar recital by Ustad Irshad Khan.
Mr K N Tilak Kumar, Joint Managing Director, The Printers (Mysore) Ltd, in his address as the guest of honour, noted that the annual festival and the newly opened Smriti Nandan Cultural Centre were both very significant contributions to the cultural heritage of Bangalore.
It may be noted that the Devanandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav, which provides a platform and public space for young musicians, has the larger goal of keeping alive the Guru-Shishya Parampara. While weekend workshops for children is an established feature of the Lalita Shivaram Ubhayaker Foundation for the Arts, the newly launched Centre is billed to expand over it by imparting the essence of creativity in different dimensions. Dance and music recitals, staging of plays and other children’s programmes figure in the Centre’s calender of events till April, 2005. The annual membership fee is Rs 300 for children between 4 and 12 years and Rs 500 for children between 12 and 17 years. Contact on ph: 22258091.
